Mg has a greater first ionization energy because it has a greater effective nuclear charge (more protons, same number of core electrons, greater attraction for out electrons).
Na has a greater second ionization energy because it is taking an electron from core electrons whereas the second electron will be removed from the valence electrons in the Mg.
well, if you look through the list of ions, S-2 is the farthest from the left and the horizxantal trend says that the farther you are from the left the smaller your radius but in this case we are looking at the size of the nucleus? s-2 has the smalles nucleus.
what makes a molecule most polar? like question one on the packet. i know you said when we were building the models that it needs to have a clear positive and negative side but how do you determine that frmm a molecule like NO? (question 1 in packet)
i dont understand what happens when you add a gas at constant volume and how it differs from adding one at constant pressure. also, in the practice packet part e of question 74. it asks if deltaH = +71.88kJ, what is the temperature for the reaction above. i dont understand how to solve this.

which of thefollwoing ions has the largest ionci rdius?
ReplyDeleteS-2,cl-1,ar,k+,Ca2+

ReplyDeletes-2 has the smalles nucleus.
i think its because it adds to create another sheild causing repulsion creating a larger nucleas but im not sure.. nd
ReplyDelete8.which pair of atoms does the second atom have the grter first inoization energy? I dont understand the wording.
ReplyDeleteto ans my first question the ioins with the same electrons, radii depends upon the smallest num of protons i.e. sulfur with 16 protons

ReplyDelete#32? coordinate covalent bonds? how are they differnt than regular covalent bonds which are just made up of the same atoms.
ReplyDeletewhat are examples of ion-ion interactions? why are they so rare?
